Elizabeth City, NC — Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) is set to close out the Fall portion of its celebrated Community Connections series with a heartfelt holiday finale, “Bach Magnificat—Sounds of Soul: Holiday Edition.” This event, directed by ECSU’s Walter R. Swan, director of choral activities, will be held in the Floyd L. Robinson Auditorium Dec. 6 and promises an evening of storytelling through music, taking audiences on a journey that reflects the strength, love and resilience of humankind.

“For years, the University Choir has graced us with their tradition of ushering in the holiday season and this year, their reach extends further to inspire and engage our broader community,” said Kevin Wade, vice chancellor for student affairs and interim vice chancellor for university advancement.

The ECSU University Choir will bring its world-class harmonies to the stage and perform a carefully curated selection that spans choral literature, spirituals, soul, pop, ballads, Broadway, jazz and gospel. In the spirit of the season, the choir’s soulful renditions aim to captivate and inspire longtime supporters and new attendees alike.

“This long-awaited collaboration marks a significant moment as we provide dedicated resources and support to our world-renowned ECSU University Choir through the Community Connections Performance and Lecture Series,” Wade said.

The Community Connections series has showcased a variety of artistic and cultural experiences and its final event, “Sounds of Soul: Holiday Edition,” is no exception.

“I am excited about the upcoming Bach Magnificat—Sounds of Soul Holiday Concert. The students are engaged, and their kinetic energy will provide a heartfelt experience for those in attendance. To hear guest soloists and holiday favorites from different genres will be the food of healing in which this community can sink its teeth. Partnering with Community Connections, local businesses, and regional friends as a recipe for an epic evening,” said Swan.

Whether you’re a fan of traditional choral pieces, modern pop or soulful jazz, “Sounds of Soul” will have something for everyone. Join ECSU as they wrap up the Community Connections series with a powerful night of music and meaning, celebrating the beauty of sound and the spirit of the holidays.
