Elizabeth City, N.C. — Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) celebrated the grand reopening of its newly renovated Commuter Center and Bowling Alley Thursday afternoon, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and special meet-and-greet with Interim Chancellor Edmonds to strike it up.
Students, faculty, alumni, and board members gathered to witness the reveal of the innovative academic space, with the renovation featuring more modern amenities.
"Inside the Commuter Center and Bowling Alley, you'll find various areas where students can conduct meetings in an open environment and participate in the Physical Education Institutional Lab and the eSports and Virtual Reality Auxiliary Lab," said Interim Chancellor Catherine Edmonds in her address to the crowd.
The event also included a meet-and-greet with Edmonds, which gave students the opportunity to discuss their experiences and aspirations for the future of ECSU.
The bowling alley has been a central hub of activity on campus for many ECSU Vikings. As part of ECSU's ongoing efforts to enhance campus life, the upgraded facility supports those efforts.
"This newly designed facility is not just a building. It is a testament to our commitment to ensure that our students love where they live and learn," Edmonds expressed.
According to Interim Chancellor Edmonds, students can find various areas to conduct meetings in an open environment and engage in friendly competitions such as bowling, a game of pool, and Xbox and PlayStation games.
After the ceremony, Kevin Wade, vice chancellor of Student Affairs and interim vice chancellor of University Advancement, presented a pair of customized bowling shoes on behalf of the student body, adorned in rhinestones, silver and ECSU blue.
