CHANCELLOR SEARCH INFORMATION

University of North Carolina System President Peter Hans and Elizabeth City State University Board of Trustees Chair Stephanie Johnson announced the launch of the search for ECSU’s next chancellor on December 11, 2024. The 13-member search advisory committee is composed of representatives of the trustees, ECSU faculty, staff, students, and alumni, UNC Board of Governors representatives, and former North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Chancellor Emeritus Harold Martin.

Opportunities for public input will be available during the search process, including an online survey and in-person listening sessions. Forums will be held in the spring semester.

ECSU will post announcements on public input and processes on this website and via the normal channels, to include social media.

Dr. Stephanie Johnson ’74, chair of the ECSU Board of Trustees and chair of the ECSU Chancellor Search Advisory Committee, invites the ECSU community to provide the committee with insight on the leadership traits and values it would like to have in the next chancellor. The committee welcomes the thoughts and input of the ECSU and Elizabeth City communities and stakeholders, via this link, no later than January 30, 2025.

Additionally, the Search Advisory Committee will offer other opportunities for stakeholders to provide input on the process. We will announce dates for future listening sessions with various campus and community groups as soon as the dates and locations are finalized. The specific January dates, times, and locations will be sent out via ECSU communications, and posted on ECSU social media accounts and this website.

The Search Advisory Committee (SAC) invites the ECSU community to provide input on leadership traits and values they would like to have in the next chancellor. In addition to the survey (see link below), please attend the session for your group to provide feedback directly to the SAC on what you believe are ECSU's priorities and the leadership characteristics desired in the next chancellor. Held at the Fine Arts Center, each listening session will be led by the SAC member representing their affinity group:
 
  • 1:00-2:00pm: Staff – Ms. Letitia Evans, Staff Senate Chair
  • 3:30-4:30pm: Faculty – Dr. Walter Swan, Faculty Senate Chair
  • 5:00-6:00pm: Students – Ms. Kayla Dixon, Student Government Association President
  • 6:30-7:30pm: Alumni/Community – Dr. Stephanie Johnson ‘74, Board of Trustees Chair and Search Advisory Committee Chair
